Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a widely used and evidence-based approach to psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviours. CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected, and that by changing one, we can affect the others.
In therapy, clients learn to identify and challenge negative or distorted thoughts and beliefs, and replace them with more realistic and helpful ones. CBT is effective for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress management.
Schema Therapy
Schema Therapy is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals identify and address long-standing patterns, or schemas, that have developed during childhood and are affecting their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours in the present.
By exploring the origins of these schemas and working to change negative patterns, Schema Therapy aims to help individuals develop new ways of thinking, feeling, and relating to others to cultivate healthy relationships that honour selves and others.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) focuses on teaching individuals skills to manage their emotions, improve their interpersonal relationships, and cope with distressing situations.
One of the key components of DBT is its emphasis on dialectics, which is the idea that two seemingly opposite things can be true at the same time. This approach helps individuals find a balance between acceptance and change, leading to more effective coping strategies and a better quality of life.
Emotion Focused Therapy
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) focuses on helping individuals understand their own and others’ emotions, as well as the dynamics of their relationship. EFT is based on the idea that emotions are central to human experience and that they can guide us in understanding our needs and shaping our interactions with others. In therapy, clients learn to recognise and express their emotions more effectively, leading to greater intimacy and connection.
